Is there an audio option? I am receiving a student who speaks Akateko and would like to translate and then have him hear the translation correctly. Please let me know. Thanks!
Unfortunately, this translator is completely useless. I speak the language at an intermediate level and not a single thing I typed in was correct. Even the most basic words and phrases. I highly recommend searching on YouTube and on Facebook “Ku ti’ Akateko.” They stopped posting as diligently as they were for a while but there is some good content for learning basics in the language. I also recommend looking up the ALMG (Academia de las Lenguas Mayas de Guatemala) website. Scroll to the bottom, and they have very thorough PDF’s that aid in teaching and explaining the language (as well as many, many other Mayan languages from Guatemala). There’s one titled “Circulo de Aprendizaje” from their Akateko resources and it’s probably the most straightforward one they have. The videos from the above channel should give you a great start in regards to proper pronunciation. Looking for resources in Q’anjob’al would be helpful, too, as the two languages are very similar. There’s a YouTube channel called TeleKuyoj and he has pretty thorough videos of explanations of grammar points. The aforementioned ALMG website has great resources too. Hope this helps!
